Discovery Films' ENCOUNTERS and MAN ON WIRE Earn OscarĀ® Nods for Best Doc

This morning it was announced that two Discovery Films productions, ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD and MAN ON WIRE, have been nominated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for an Oscar® in the Best Documentary Feature category. Other nominees include The Betrayal, The Garden and Trouble the Water.

ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD, directed by Werner Herzog (GRIZZLY MAN), documents the lives of the few who live in unbelievably close quarters in Antarctica, risking their lives and sanity in search of cutting-edge science. Herzog, accompanied only by his camerman, traveled to Antarctica, with rare access to the raw beauty and raw humanity of the ultimate Down Under. MAN ON WIRE, directed by James Marsh, brings Philippe Petit's August 1974 highwire walk between New York's Twin Towers to life through the testimony of Philippe himself and several of his co-conspirators who helped him pull off "the artistic crime of the century." MAN ON WIRE is now available on DVD; for more information on the film, please visit manonwire.com.
